Earlier, Southeast Asian Games champions Châu Tuyết Vân, Nguyễn Thị Lệ Kim, Hứa Văn Huy, Lê Thanh Trung and Nguyễn Thiên Phụng topped the podium in the freestyle team event.
The bronzes went to the men’s and women’s teams. They also went to Nguyễn Quốc Minh in the men’s U40 standard inpidual, Nguyễn Thị Mộng Quỳnh in the women’s freestyle inpidual and Nguyễn Trương Quốc Đại in the men’s freestyle inpidual.
Athletes will compete next at the first World Beach Taekwondo Poomsae in Indonesia on July 23 and 24.
In other taekwondo news, Vietnam failed an Olympic qualification round in Manila on April 16-17.
This means Vietnam will have no taekwondo representatives at the Brazil Games this August. This is the first time Vietnam won’t be represented since before Sydney 2000, when Trần Hiếu Ngân, a taekwondo athlete, pocketed the first-ever Olympic silver medal for the country./.
