According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, tourists frequented cities and provinces across the country in May increased over the same month last year. Thanh Hoa welcomed 936,000 tourists, increasing by 19.1 percent; Ben Tre 105,830 tourists, up by 15 percent; Kien Giang more than 461,000 tourists, up by 13.8 percent; Hanoi  1,580,000 tourists, up by 10 percent; Da Nang  392,841 tourists, up by 6.6 percent; Quang Ninh  685,660 tourists, up by 4 percent; Lao Cai 236,850 tourists, up by 24.5 percent; Quang Ngai up by 80,000 tourists, up by 22 percent; Lam Dong 315,000 tourists, up by 5 percent; Binh Thuan 360,000 tourists, up by 3.2 percent and Khanh Hoa 1,648,593 tourists, up by 14.37 percent.

In the first five months of 2016, more than four million foreign tourists came to Vietnam, a 20 percent increase over the same period last year, with the increases seen in almost all markets including Hong Kong, China up by 139 percent, Thailand up by 37.7 percent, the Republic of Korea up by 31.4 percent, Italy up by 30.1 percent, Sweden up by 26.5 percent, the UK up by 24.4 percent, Russia up by 23.3 percent and Spain up by 22.4 percent. As many as 27.3 million domestic tourists toured in the country. The total tourism revenue reached VND167.464 trillion, a 20.7 percent increase.

Improved tourism development links

These positive tourism development achievements resulted from improved local and regional tourism development links. For example, Lao Cai, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Yen Bai and Lai Chau signed a tourism promotion agreement, Hanoi and Khanh Hoa signed a tourism development cooperation agreement, the Southwest Steering Committee and Hanoi People’s Committee coordinated a conference to promote trade and tourism in the Mekong Delta and northern provinces, and Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Da Nang co-built The Essence of Vietnam brand name.

Tourists are predicted to increase in number, especially to provinces and cities with upgraded tourism infrastructure. For example, Hai Phong is scheduled to construct a high-class resort in Hon Dau during the 2016-2021 period with total investment of nearly 5 trillion, the Grand Ho Tram Strip and Cotec companies will co-build a second hotel worth US$75 million, and the Muong Thanh Group launched the Muong Thanh Luxury Ca Mau. 

The Quang Binh Province People’s Committee has approved the exploitation of tours to Va and Nuoc Nut caves, to provide tourists more choices in the Thien Duong Cave Eco-tourism Zone.
