Sultan of Brunei pays State visit to Vietnam

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam began his State visit to Vietnam on March 26 at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Brunei’s Sultan is accompanied by Prince Abdul Mateen; Special Adviser to His Majesty and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office P.Ibrahim; Minister of Basic Resources and Tourism D.Ali Apong; Minister at the PM’s Office and second Minister Finance and Economy D.Abdullah; Second Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Yusof; Private Secretary of Sultan P.Taha; and Brunei Darussalam's Ambassador to Vietnam P.Salleh.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam was born on July 15, 1946, enthroned on August 14, 1961, and crowned on October 5, 1967.

He took his private tuition at the Darul Hana palace when he was very young and studied at the Victoria Institution (Malaysia) between 1961 and 1963.

He also studied at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien University in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, in 1963.

From January 1966 to October 1967, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom and was appointed a colonel.

The Sultan received an honourary doctorate on Humanities and Culture from Gajah Mada University in Indonesia in 2013 and was awarded an honourary doctorate on Law from the National University of Singapore two years later.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is the Head of State, the PM, Minister of Defence and the Supreme Commander of the Royal Armed Forces, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance and Economy, and Muslim Leader of Brunei.
