Strengthening Energy Cooperation between Korea and Viet Nam

On July 1st 2015, the Minister of Viet Nam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), H.E. Vu Huy Hoang had a meeting with Mr. Jun Dae Joo - the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Viet Nam.

At the meeting, Mr. Jun Dae Joo expressed sincere thanks to H.E Vu Huy Hoang and he also suggested the two sides should further promote the implementation of the cooperation agreements in the energy sector, such as the building of a pre-feasibility report (Pre-FS) for the nuclear power plant in Vietnam that the two governments had proposed at the 3rd session of the Joint Committee between Vietnam and Korea.

 

In response to the opinion of the Ambassador, H.E. Vu Huy Hoang said that in June 2015, EVN has sent the Pre-FS proposed by the Korean side. This report is now appraisal process conducted by the General Department of Energy. It will be soon reported to the Ministry in the beginning of July 2015.

Besides, the Minister also highly appreciated contributions of the Sub-Committee on Nuclear Power, Energy and Industry for the cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries in the recent years.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister expressed his recognition about the Ambassador’s opinions for strengthening energy cooperation between two sides and he assigned General Department of Energy to regularly update the situation and discuss with the Korean Electricity Power Corporation (KEPCO) on related issues. Simultaneously, Minister kindly requested the Korean government to promptly accomplish internal procedures in order to approve the VKFTA./.
