(VEN) - Vietnam is one of the world's top five ocean polluters, with about 1.8 million tonnes of plastic waste dumped into the sea annually. Two major cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, discharge about 8,000 tonnes and 10,000 tonnes of garbage daily, putting pressure on waste treatment facilities.
Industrial clusters face environmental challenges

Hanoi forms retailer alliance to reduce plastic waste

(VEN) - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is coordinating with Hanoi’s Department of Industry and Trade to form an alliance of 15 retailers in order to reduce the use of disposable plastic bags. The move was announced last month by Vice Director Nguyen Trung Thang of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE).
Vietnam prepares plans to comply with zero emissions commitment

(VEN) - Government ministries and economic sectors are preparing action plans to implement Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 made at the global climate summit (COP26) in Glasgow last November. At a follow-up meeting with the national steering committee for realization of Vietnam's COP26 commitments, the prime minister requested that action plans be submitted in the first quarter of 2022.
