Notable “rice ATMs” in Hanoi include two dispensers in Cau Giay and Bac Tu Liem districts donated by Nguyen Manh Hung, owner of a major bookstore in the capital. These two machines provided free rice for about 4,000 people daily for 20 days.

There are dozens of other “rice ATMs” for needy people. These include a 21-tonne rice dispenser providing free rice for 7,000 people, donated by the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and a “rice ATM” funded by the National Economics University’s (NEU) employees.
