The central province of Quang Tri has to date licensed 316 projects in its industrial parks and economic zones with a capital totalling nearly VND68.5 trillion (US$3 billion).
The provincial authorities said 208 projects worth VND42.3 trillion (US$1.86 billion) have been put into operation while 93 projects are being implemented. The remaining 15 projects have yet to begin.
In 2017 alone, Quang Tri province has granted investment licences to 12 projects with total pledges of nearly VND2 trillion (US$88 million).
According to Tran Doan, head of the Quang Tri Economic Zones Management Board, the province has been working hard to attract investments by organising investment promotional events and improving business conditions.
He stated Quang Tri has dispatched many delegations to work with strategic investors such as Becamex IDC, Sembcorp (Singapore) and EGAT International (Thailand), as well as joining the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s venture promotional tours in Singapore and Japan.
The province has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Sembcorp to explore the opportunity of building a Vietnam-Singapore industrial park in the province.
Doan added that among 18 projects licensed at the investment conference held last year and 11 projects have been implemented with VND2.23 trillion (US$98 million) disbursed, which is more than one fifth of total pledges.
The VND1.4 trillion (US$61.6 million) Huong Linh 2 wind farm is a notable project that has been implemented on schedule and has also been put into operation, stated Doan.
