(VEN) - The Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company (QNS) reuses all bagasse, sawdust, rice husk and waste discharged from the sugar production process as fuel for its biomass power plant. In addition, the company’s wastewater treatment system is operated and managed by 4.0 technology, and the plantation of more trees in production areas help bring QNS closer to the goal of becoming a green, low-emission enterprise.

Environmental focus

Located in Quang Ngai City’s Quang Phu Industrial Park, and surrounded by many food processing plants, the production facilities of QNS have controlled their wastes and emissions by a system of modern equipment and machinery.

Accordingly, the entire production areas of Dung Quat Beer, Vinasoy Milk, Thach Bich Mineral Water and Biscafun Confectionery are covered by green trees. In production workshops, workers strictly adhere to environmental and occupational safety regulations. Every year, QNS organizes training sessions on occupational safety and environmental protection for its employees. Those who violate the regulations are fined or even fired.

In environmental sanitation, the company sets out specific orientations and tasks for each field and each product. One typical example is the An Khe Biomass Power Plant with a capacity of 95 MW/year, using fuel from biomass energy sources such as bagasse, coffee residue, sawdust, and rice husk to produce electricity and fertilizers. Its steam production workshop then uses biomass fuel to supply steam to internal units. This is the result of using waste to solve environmental pollution in the plant.

Emission strictly controlled

In order to strictly control emission sources during the production process, QNS invested more than VND10 billion in 2020 to treat wastewater and air pollution and set up an environmental monitoring station that meets the prescribed standards. The company also constantly invests in production lines, modern machinery and international standard equipment in order to improve production capacity, effectively use natural resources and limit negative impact on the environment. It has also applied advanced management tools and solutions to save raw materials, fuel and energy in production.

Currently, the Environment and Clean Water Center of QNS is supplying clean water and treating wastewater at a capacity of 3,000 cu.m per day. The smoke treatment system of the steam workshop ensures environmental standards. QNS has also installed three online emission monitoring stations at the boilers of An Khe Sugar Factory and An Khe Biomass Power Plant, and another wastewater monitoring station for the An Khe Sugar Factory. All data is transmitted to the Gia Lai provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment and can be accessed on smartphones. This enables the company to control the quality of gas emissions and wastewater from factories before discharging them into the environment, facilitating supervision by state management agencies and local residents.

General Director of Quang Ngai Sugar JSC Vo Thanh Dang: QNS always attaches importance to

environmental protection in its production and business activities.
