(VEN) - The PV GAS Trade Union is organizing a host of activities for employees and related businesses to mark Worker Month and Occupational Safety and Health Month, all of them emphasizing the importance of worker safety and adherence to guidelines on prevention of Covid-19.
“Worker Month” is an annual activity organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) every May, with the aim of caring for and protecting the legal and legitimate rights and interests of employees. This year marks the 135th anniversary of International Labor Day on May 1.

However, following the directions of the Vietnam National Union of Oil and Gas Workers, the trade union of the PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) and of affiliated trade unions has developed plans to mark Worker Month throughout the first quarter of the year instead of in May. The PV GAS Trade Union disseminated information about the purpose, meaning and nature of the activities to all employees using banners, slogans, movies, photos, newsletters and the intranet. It also organized votes for outstanding Oil and Gas/PV Gas employees and rewards for collectives and individuals who have successfully implemented the directive on studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
The activities include outreach to employees, such as visiting and encouraging victims of workplace accidents or occupational diseases with disability, or those suffering from a serious illness that requires a long-term treatment and those who have an average income of less than VND4.5 million a month. The PV GAS Trade Union will also hold dialogues with employees on their proposals and recommendations.
The PV GAS Trade Union has also asked its affiliated trade unions to coordinate with local authorities to inspect compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH), fire and explosion prevention regulations at offices and production facilities of corporations, train workers in OSH regulations, organize a contest to provide OSH knowledge for employees; inform employees about measures on Covid-19 prevention and control issued by the Ministry of Health.
