PM meets with world leaders on ASEM Summit sidelines

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc had bilateral meetings with world leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, on the sidelines of the ongoing Asia-Europe Meeting Summit in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

In his meeting with Finnish counterpart Juha Sipila, PM Phuc welcomed Finland’s policy of encouraging its businesses to enhance investment in Viet Nam. Both sides agreed to foster cooperation at international forums, especially the United Nations, ASEM, and ASEAN-EU framework.

During his meeting with Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann, PM Phuc suggested the two countries organize activities to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

He called on Swiss enterprises to enhance investment in finance-banking, insurance, high-technology, processing, pharmacy, and tourism.

The Swiss President affirmed that Viet Nam remains a priority recipient of Switzerland’s official development assistance.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong discussed measures to beef up the strategic partnership as well as regional and international matters of common concern.

PM Phuc invited his Singaporean counterpart to attend a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Singapore Industrial Park in Binh Duong Province in September this year..

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated Japanese PM Shinzo Abe on the Liberal Democratic Party’s recent victory in Japanese Senate and thanked the Japanese counterpart for inviting him to the G7 Summit last May.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha agreed to discuss specific cooperation activities during their upcoming Joint Cabinet meeting.

The Thai PM said he would encourage big companies to strengthen investment in Viet Nam.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea agreed to accelerate trade and economic ties by creating a new wave of Korean investment in Viet Nam, especially in high-tech, energy, and transport sectors.

The Republic of Korea will share its experience in rural development with Viet Nam and assist the Southeast Asian country in organizing the APEC year 2017, President Park said.

PM Phuc thanked the Korean Government for providing emergency aid worth US$300,000 to help the central and the Mekong Delta regions to cope with droughts and saltwater intrusion.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed their pleasure at the positive advancement of the Viet Nam-Germany strategic partnership established in 2011.

He invited the German Chancellor to revisit Viet Nam soon, calling on the two sides to foster cooperation in priority areas like vocational training, energy and climate change adaptation.

The Vietnamese PM  also met with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid, and New Zealander FM Murray McCully./.
