PM NguyenTan Dung on July 29 issued another public telegraph, asking local authorities of northern coastal Quang Ninh province and relevant agencies to drastically assist local residents in surmounting consequences of floods caused by torrential rains.
The PM requested the Quang Ninh People’s Committee to visit and support suffering families and supply isolated households with essential staples; evacuate households in severely flooded areas or those vulnerable to flash floods and landslides to safer places; and mobilise local medical, military, security and youth forces for post-flood cleanup and disease prevention.
The National Committee for Search and Rescue, the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security were instructed to deploy forces to help Quang Ninh address the deluge aftermath.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was requested to ensure the safety of reservoirs and the Ministry of Health was asked to prepare for environmental cleanups.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Information and Communications are in charge of resuming the electricity supply and communications and work with the local authorities to instruct the Viet Nam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group to handle the coal residue dam break and prepare for landslides at ovens and dumping grounds.
So far, torrential rains, caused by a low pressure trough crossing the northern region from July 26-28 submerged roads and houses in Ha Long City and led to 17 deaths and six missing, according to Tien Phong Newspaper./.
