phu yen improves productivity by investing in technology

In the past, Phu Yen used its limited budget for industry promotion activities in many fields, resulting in low efficiency. To overcome these shortcomings, Phu Yen Province focused on supporting improved productivity and quality, increasing the value and scientific content of industrial products, and developing typical rural industrial products and key industries. Priority was given to building technical performance models and promoting application of advanced technologies in production.

During the 2014-2018 period, these projects accounted for 33.3 percent of the industry promotion budget, with seven technical performance models and 23 advanced machinery and equipment projects being implemented.

These projects have helped businesses and rural industrial production establishments gradually improve their production lines and modernize production stages, contributing to increased productivity and product quality, and ensuring environmental protection. Most projects are involved in agro, forestry and fishery processing, which are the locality’s advantages.

According to the Phu Yen Department of Industry and Trade, investment in buying advanced machinery and equipment has changed, but the technology level is still limited. There has been no interest in technical performance models and new and modern technology transfer projects are also lacking. In addition, the number of production establishments and the demand for support are high, while the budget remains limited.

The Phu Yen Department of Industry and Trade is examining how to integrate the industry promotion program into policies for rural industrial development; take advantage of capital sources to support production development and improve productivity and quality; and amend a number of obsolete policies. These targets are intended to raise the level of support for technical performance models and promote application of advanced technologies in production.

In addition, the department will provide consultancy for investment in buying advanced machinery and equipment; conduct surveys and enhance access to rural industrial production establishments, especially those with growth prospects; expand effective technical performance models; strengthen appraisal and selection of quality projects; and evaluate and draw experience in the implementation of industry promotion activities.

Phu Yen Province spent total industry promotion budget of VND11.36 billion during the 2014-2018 period. Projects on

building technical performance models and promoting application of advanced technologies in production accounted

for 33.3 percent of the total.
