He said trade and industry would help the country achieve faster growth and become wealthier.

The Party chief stated that the MOIT has faced a great deal of challenges in recent years as a number of ministry officials had committed serious violations, damaging its reputation and the morale of its staff.

Nevertheless the ministry has been working hard to overcome the difficulties, fulfil its assigned tasks and make notable contributions to overall economic development, extolled General Secretary Trong.

According to Minister Tran Tuan Anh, the MOIT is a pioneer in streamlining its bureaucracy with a significant reduction of sub-departments, business regulations and administrative procedures.

The ministry is also focusing its efforts on dealing with struggling projects under its management and has achieved encouraging initial results.

At the same time, the restructuring of state-owned enterprises is being accelerated in a more effective manner, notably the successful equitisation of the brewer Sabeco, bringing VND110 trillion (US$4.8 billion) to the State budget.

The Party chief asked the MOIT not to be complacent with its results and to make greater efforts as it continues on the path of progress.

He noted that with its particularly important role, the ministry needs to enhance the quality of its staff and step up IT application and administrative reform in order to improve the delivery of public services.
