(VEN) - Although Ninh Thuan Province has offered craft development incentives for investors, it has yet seen drastic craft production improvements.

Ninh Thuan sees to craft development

Ninh Thuan has three recognized craft villages including Bau Truc Pottery Village, My Nghiep and Chung My brocade-weaving villages. In addition, there are several unrecognized craft villages specializing in producing fish sauce, steamed fish, chopsticks, conical hat and hammocks.

According to the Ninh Thuan Department of Industry and Trade, each of three recognized craft villages earns more than VND10 billion annually while other craft villages with some 5,000 facilities that still adopt backward production technologies and small-scale production models are struggling to survive in the market. Fish sauce and steamed fish have potential but producers have failed to build brand names for their products. The monthly income per capita is just between VND800,000-1 million.

The department has provided financial assistance for local craft facilities based on funding from industry, trade and electronic commerce promotion programs. It also petitioned related ministries and agencies to closely coordinate with it in craft development administration.

During the 2006-2015 period, 51 craft facilities received VND4.36 billion in preferential loans to invest in new production technologies. They successfully raised productivity and product quality especially for pottery and wines. The province organized four pottery, brocade, bamboo and rattan weaving training courses. It also funded from VND100-150 million for corporate participation in local and national fairs and exhibitions to introduce local craft products to consumers.

Until 2020, Ninh Thuan targets to earn VND1.4 trillion in craft production value, marking an annual growth rate of between 16-18 percent; employ some 12,000 workers and increase the monthly income per capita to between VND2.8-3 million.

To hit the targets, Ninh Thuan will continue focus on approved industry promotion projects with the intention of further assisting craft facilities in improving productivity and product quality and branding.

Until 2020 Ninh Thuan targets to have 3-5 craft villages and 2-3 craft products branded in each of its districts and urban areas.
