(VEN) - Results of a project on the application of mechanized technology suitable to the geological and technical conditions of sloped and inclined underground coal mines is expected to more than double the coal output in Quang Ninh Province within a few years. The study was implemented by the Institute of Mining Science and Technology of the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Criteria for selecting technology
Vietnam’s coal industry plays an important role in ensuring national energy security (by 2025, almost half the country’s power supply will be produced from coal). Due to environmental protection pressure of Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province, open-pit mining has been gradually scaled down and will end in 2030. Underground mining is expected to provide 73 percent of the required output by 2025. In order to increase coal output and labor productivity, as well as improve worker safety and conditions, underground coal mines have been applying increased levels of mechanization. Project director Dr. Le Duc Nguyen said his team had evaluated the application of synchronous mechanized technology in underground coal mines in Quang Ninh over the past year. Experience from other countries was also synthesized as a basis for proposing synchronous mechanized technology models to exploit coal under similar conditions in Vietnam.
Based on domestic and foreign mechanized technology application experiences, the project has proposed four models of mechanization technology suitable for the Quang Ninh region - heavy, medium, light mechanization and a semi-synchronous mechanization model.
The project also proposed the optimal equipment for mechanized underground coal mines, such as trusses and coal excavators, and a roadmap for applying mechanized models in the 2020-2023 period. Accordingly, the mining output by mechanization will increase from 3.83 million tonnes in 2020 to 7.98 million tonnes in 2023; the total number of mechanized underground coal mines will increase from 10 in 2020 to 23 in 2023.
Improving labor productivity
Based on geological conditions of the coal seams in Quang Ninh and the criteria for selecting mechanization technology, the project has chosen a light synchronous mechanized mining technology production line, including a ZY2400/14/32Q truss; a MG160/381-WD coal excavator and a SGZ630/220 rake to pilot actual production on the field.
The light mechanized technology model applied at the Ha Long Coal Company showed positive economic and technical indicators with coal mining output reaching 28,131 tonnes a month, and direct labor productivity at 28.9 tonnes per working day. Compared with dynamite blasting under the same conditions, the output of this model is 2-3 times higher, and the direct labor productivity is also 3-6 times higher, and working conditions and worker safety have significantly improved.
Compared with other synchronous mechanized mining technologies in Quang Ninh Province, the light synchronous mechanized technology in Ha Long City achieved the same or even higher economic and technical results than some coal mining technology production lines in the Quang Hanh and Khe Cham coal mines.
|In order to reduce resource losses, further improve the safety level and the proportion of coal mined by mechanization technology in Vietnam’s underground coal mines, the research results of this project should be applied to actual production.|
