(VEN) - The X’tieng ethnic people of Binh Phuoc Province in the Southern Key Economic Zone have preserved rich traditional cultural treasures. Among its highlights is the New Rice Celebration.
Relying on the land for their living, the X’tieng people treat crops, especially rice, like they treat people, considering rice a god with a soul. Therefore, when the rice fields are ripe for harvesting, offering rites are held to pay tribute to the gods.
New Rice Celebration is the biggest festival of the year, also providing an opportunity for people to exchange production experiences, dance, sing, drink wine and eat newly harvested rice.
During the festival, the X’tieng people ask the gods, especially the rice god, to help them grow a plentiful crop the following year and bless their family with sufficient food and easy work.
