(VEN) - The Vietnam Trade Information Portal (VTIP) is expected to not only meet the requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO)’s Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), but also connect businesses to dozens of ministries and departments working in the export and import fields.
According to the World Bank’s “Doing Business 2017” report, Vietnam climbed nine notches to 82nd position on the list covering 190 economies. Regarding the Trading Across Borders index related to export-import activities, goods clearance and specialized inspection regulations, Vietnam jumped 15 places to 93rd position.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs’ International Cooperation Department, the customs sector has simplified procedures and created favorable conditions for businesses. In particular, the General Department of Vietnam Customs has strengthened coordination with the World Bank on providing information related to export-import activities for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, through VTIP. In addition, the VTIP is also an important tool to assist the government in simplifying and legalizing relevant administrative procedures.
To help Vietnam implement the Trade Facilitation Agreement commitments, the World Bank has supported the Vietnamese government through such measures as supporting the establishment and improving capacity of the National Single Window Steering Committee, and building the VTIP. Development of the VTIP has been implemented since January 2016, with the advice of the PM Group. As of date, nearly 2,000 contents related to legal regulations and administrative procedures have been posted in the portal.
“In addition to posting contents, the PM Group has organized training courses for employees under the General Department of Vietnam Customs to let them know about the VTIP’s operation,” Project Manager and Chief Advisor Chris Lewis Jones said. The VTIP is expected to help save time and costs for export-import businesses, and contribute to promoting the country’s trade growth.
