(VEN) - The Phu Quoc-Mekong Delta National Tourism Year 2016 will take place in the whole year in Kien Giang Province and many cities and provinces throughout the country, under the theme, “Exploring the Southern Land”.
Kien Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Director Tran Chi Dung said that to welcome the National Tourism Year 2016, 13 national and international activities will be organized in Kien Giang Province. The announcement of the National Tourism Year 2016 will be organized in January 2016, while the opening and closing ceremony will be held on April 9 and December, respectively.
The National Tourism Year 2016 will also witness 12 activities organized in 18 cities and provinces including Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Lao Cai, Can Tho, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang, Hau Giang and Ben Tre.
Kien Giang Province will participate in international trade and tourism fairs such as organizing roadshows in Singapore and France in cooperation with Quang Nam and Da Nang and enhancing promotion activities in Japan and the Republic of Korea.
“Diversifying promotion activities and strengthening tourism advertisement at home and abroad will contribute to expanding the market and spurring tourism development,” Tran Chi Dung said.
Vietnam National Administration of Tourism General Director Nguyen Van Tuan said that the National Tourism Year 2016 would offer a great opportunity to advertise tourism and the country’s image. To successfully organize the event, Mekong Delta provinces need to persify tourism products and strengthen links to create the attractiveness for the region. Promoting investment in infrastructure serving tourism, raising community awareness in terms of the role of the National Tourism Year 2016, strengthening promotion activities at home and abroad, organizing activities in the framework of the event and raising all social resources are mentioned as necessary.
The National Tourism Year 2016 will benefit not only Kien Giang Province but also Mekong Delta provinces, contributing to advertising characteristics of the south to domestic and foreign visitors. Kien Giang Province is accelerating investment in upgrading infrastructure and key tourist areas. The province has more than 300 hotels with nearly 8,000 standard rooms and hundreds of motels. In addition, the province is proposing to build some tours to new tourist destinations and develop traditional tourism products.
The number of visitors to Kien Giang Province in 2016 is expected to increase by 30 percent compared to 2015. This figure would be higher in the coming time due to the announcement of new flight routes such as Russia-Phu Quoc, Singapore-Phu Quoc and Cambodia-Phu Quoc. The province is proposing to open some more routes such as Guangzhou-Phu Quoc, the Republic of Korea-Phu Quoc and Chinese Taipei-Phu Quoc.
