(VEN) - In October 2021, the Nam Con Son Gas Pipeline Company (NSCP) reached a new milestone in its history with the successful reception, treatment and transportation of 100 billion cu.m of gas a day through its pipeline system.
Maintenance work on the Nam Con Son 1 gas system
The NCSP is a joint venture between the Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS), Rosneft Pipelines Vietnam and Perenco Vietnam AS, with PV GAS the project operator. The Nam Con Son gas pipeline system is one of the world’s longest two-phase gas systems spanning 400km. It also has a gas treatment plant, and a valve station to process gas and condensate from blocks in Nam Con Son basin, supplying gas to power and fertilizer plants in Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces.
The project was launched in 2001 with investment of about US$1.3 billion, which was one of the largest foreign-invested projects in Vietnam at the time. In December 2002, NCSP received the first commercial gas flow from the Lan Tay field. To meet the increasing gas demand for power generation, NCSP put the second gas production line into operation in 2008, raising the plant's capacity from 10.48 to 20 million cu.m of gas a day. In 2011 and 2013, NCSP continued to increase the capacity of the plant to 21 million and 22 million cu.m a day respectively. In July 2017, the second gas distribution station was also put into operation, which helped improve the efficiency of the Nam Con Son gas source.
Checking the safety of the gas pipeline system
Over 20 years of development, NCSP’s results have yielded high economic efficiency for its investors, contributing to the formation of Vietnam’s largest Gas-Power-Fertilizer complex in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The project always ensured safety, avoiding serious accidents to workers, the environment and assets.
Nam Con Son Gas Pipeline System is now capable of supplying 100 billion cu.m of gas and more than 23 million barrels of condensate stably and safely. At one time, it contributed to the production of about 40 percent of the country's total electricity output, making significant contributions to the development of PV GAS, PVN and the Vietnamese economy, as well as ensuring national energy security.
In addition to production and business activities, the company participates in and sponsors social security projects in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, in the fields of health, education, poverty reduction, quality of life improvement and sustainable development.
After many years operating the gas system under international standards, the qualifications and capability of the NCSP staff have been greatly improved. The management system, processes and regulations related to safety, operations, maintenance, personnel and procurement have been updated. This also marks the 14th consecutive year without accidents even though employees work under high pressure.

Given the unpredictable developments of the Covid-19 pandemic and under the directions of PV Gas, the NCSP Board of Directors and employees implemented urgent pandemic prevention and control measures while performing their work according to set plans. This included completing safe and effective periodic major maintenance and repair work, completing the smart pigging of the offshore gas pipeline safely within the approved budget.
The transportation of 100 billion cu.m of gas once again affirms NCSP's strategic role in Vietnam's gas industry, marking an important and memorable step in over 20 years of safe, efficient and reliable company operations.
