NA Standing Committee’s 19th session opens

The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 19th session in Hanoi on December 11 to review the outcomes of the fourth sitting of the 14th NA and discuss preparations for the next meeting.

NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said legislators will also look into a report on results of the supervision of the issuance of resolutions and the operation of centrally-run municipal and provincial People’s Councils.

The establishment of Ninh Cuong town in Truc Ninh district, the northern province of Nam Dinh will also be deliberated upon during the session, she added.

The committee will mull over the adjustment of the investment plan on housing support for people who contributed to the revolution during 2016-2020, and the plans on Government bond capital during the 2012-2015 and 2014-2016 periods.

Discussions will also cover the compensation work of projects to upgrade and expand the National Highway 1- section from the central province of Thanh Hoa to the Mekong Delta province of Can Tho, and a section of the Ho Chi Minh road crossing the Central Highlands.

Apart from reviewing external activities and international cooperation in 2017, the lawmakers are scheduled to approve the committee’s external affair program in 2018 and give opinions on external activities and international cooperation of the Ethnic Council, committees, friendship parliamentarians’ groups, agencies of the Standing Committee of the NA, the State Audit Office of Vietnam, and the NA Office.

The committee is also expected to ratify the proposal to appoint Vietnamese ambassadors to a number of countries for 2017-2020.
