National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan received Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) Michaelle Jean at the NA House in Hanoi on October 11.

Speaking at the reception, NA Chairwoman Ngan stressed that relations between Vietnam and the OIF over the past have been strengthened via OIF activities in the country and across the region. She expressed her sincere thanks for OIF’s supported to Vietnam in many fields, especially in French training projects and supporting scientific research.
The legislator also said that Vietnam’s NA actively participated in activities of the Francophone community via the operation of the Vietnamese Sub-committee in the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF) and was elected by APF to the position of APF Vice President for several terms.
She affirmed that the Vietnam’s NA has made efforts to promote its role and actively participate in APF and OIF’s activities, thereby Vietnam continues to affirm its policy of becoming an active and responsible member of Francophone community.
For her part, OIF Secretary General Jean praised cooperation between Vietnam and the OIF, including economic cooperation. She said that both Vietnam and the OIF are aiming towards prosperous and equitable growth.
To achieve that goal, there should be strong institutions and the role of the NA is especially important, particularly in creating legal corridors to ensure proper and sustainable growth, she stressed.
The OIF Secretary General also expressed her wish that Vietnam would continue to share its experiences with the Francophone community at the upcoming 16th Francophonie Summit in Madagascar next month with the theme surrounding even growth and responsible development.
The OIF also asked Vietnam to join a Francophone forum for female entrepreneurs in 2017 to share Vietnamese female entrepreneurs’ success stories./.
