NA Chairwoman announces establishment of Chi Linh city in Hai Duong

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan granted the NA Resolution on the establishment of Chi Linh city in Hai Duong province to the city authorities at a ceremony held on April 20.

Chi Linh is located in the Hanoi- Hai Phong – Quang Ninh key economic triangle with a total area of 282.917km2 and a population of 220,421. The city is also home to 15 ethnic minority groups.

The average income per capita in Chi Linh was posted at over VND75 million (US$3,225) in 2018, which is higher than the average level of Hai Duong province and the whole country, while the poverty rate was reduced to 1.2%.

The economic structure of Chi Linh has also seen positive changes with the proportion of over 57% in the industrial sector, over 32% in the service sector and over 10% in the agricultural sector.

The NA Standing Committee issued Decision No.623 on January 10, 2019, to upgrade Chi Linh town to Chi Linh city in recognition of its achievements over the past few years.

At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam presented a Government certificate of merit to Chi Linh city for leading the patriotic emulation movement launched by Hai Duong province in 2018.

Secretary of Hai Duong provincial Party Committee Nguyen Manh Hien said that Chi Linh is a young city and a key region of Hai Duong’s economic, cultural and tourism development. Therefore, the city should be more proactive in promoting its advantages for rapid and sustainable development in the future.
