Speaking at the function, the top legislator spoke highly of the diplomatic sector’s significant contributions to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, defending national sovereignty and security, taking advantage of external resources to boost the country’s economy, as well as increasing Vietnam’s position and prestige on the international stage.

As Vietnam is entering a new and strategic development phase in which international integration is defined as strategic direction, she required the diplomatic sector to thoroughly grasp the Party’s guidelines on external relations and actively make proposals to the Party and State on integration.

People and voters nationwide have paid special attention to recent complicated happenings in East Sea, she noted, asking delegates at the 29th Diplomatic Conference to focus their discussions on safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity whilst maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

She urged ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to remain updated and take advantage of international support for Vietnam.

She asked the diplomatic sector to be active in protecting Vietnamese citizens abroad and Overseas Vietnamese, promoting the role of Vietnamese associations while preserving and advertising Vietnamese culture in their host countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must enhance its consultancy for the National Assembly and Government in building and completing the legal system, particularly in the signing and implementation of free trade agreements, she said.

The ministry was also requested to work closely with the National Assembly's Committee for External Relations to consolidate relations between the Vietnamese NA and its counterparts in other countries as well as with friendship organisations and friendship parliamentary groups.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh expressed his appreciation for the NA Chair for the reception.

On behalf of the guests, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that they will continue co-ordinating with NA-run agencies to fulfill their tasks assigned by the NA and voters nationwide./.
