(VEN) - The Lam Thao Fertilizers and Chemicals Joint Stock Company (LAFCHEMCO), formerly known as the Lam Thao Super Phosphate Plant, was built in 1959 with the assistance from the former Soviet Union. The plant commenced production on June 24, 1962, using state-of-the-art technology at that time. Its products had contributed to positive changes of Vietnamese agriculture and the development of the domestic industrial sector. In 1993, the National Assembly approved the Law on Environmental Protection. In 1995, Vietnam for the first time introduced its environmental standards. The equipment and technology used by the plant at that time proved to be incompliant with these standards in many points.

Over the past more than two decades, all leaders, staff members and workers of LAFCHEMCO, from one generation to another, have worked hard and proposed initiatives to help the company deal with environmental problems in each period.

The company has found effective solutions to control exhaust fumes, dust, solid and hazardous waste in accordance with state regulations. Since 2008, more than 98 percent of wastewater has been treated for reuse in production.

Environmental protection is becoming increasingly important and necessary in society. The government is determined not to barter the environment for economic growth and requires investors and businesses to pay primary attention to environmental protection when implementing their investment projects.

Along with implementing its product and market development strategies, LAFCHEMCO has paid great attention to protecting the environment.

Since the beginning of March 2017, the company has successfully treated 100 percent of wastewater for reuse in production. This enables LAFCHEMCO to reduce production costs and the consumption of lime required for wastewater neutralization, as well as to reduce manpower needs and improve working conditions, paving the way for the company to promote its sustainable development.
