Japan, the largest foreign investor in Vietnam

(VEN) - According to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in March 2014, 2,237 Japanese investment projects were ongoing in Vietnam with total registered capital of US$35.38 billion. Japan currently takes the lead among foreign countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Japan has invested in 18 out of 21 sectors of the Vietnamese economy. Processing and manufacturing industries top the list with 1,213 projects with total registered capital of US$29.82 billion, accounting for 54.2 percent of the total number of projects and 84.3 percent of the total amount of capital; real estate ranks second with 30 projects (US$1.4 billion), accounting for four percent of total investment capital.

Japan has invested in 48 out of 63 Vietnamese provinces and cities. Thanh Hoa takes the lead with eight projects with total registered capital of US$9.67 billion. Binh Duong ranks second with 224 projects (US$4.18 billion)./.
