“Over the past five consecutive years the export turnover of the Italian leather and footwear sector, which has accounted for 75 pct of the total revenue, has grown substantially. Such a growth confirming that Italy is a leading country in the footwear, leather goods and tanning machinery industry. In 2017 the sector’s exports from Italy to all the countries recorded the value of about 440 million Euros, up over 10 pct year-on-year. In Vietnam, the export value is even more remarkable; the sales of machinery and equipment for the footwear and leather industry from Italy were over 30 million euros, doubling that in 2016”, said Mr. Lemma.

Ms. Gabriella Marchioni Bocca, President of ASSOMAC, said: “In the past couple of years, the presence of Italian enterprises with their exclusive capabilities has supported the outstanding development of the Vietnamese leather and footwear industry. Nowadays, Vietnam has become the third largest shoe makers and the second largest footwear exporter in the world. Such an unexpected success is attributed to the huge domestic and foreign investment in this field, as well as the effort of the Vietnamese leather and footwear businesses. In 2017, the Italy-Vietnam Footwear Technology Center was inaugurated in Binh Duong Province, which is the result of the cooperation program among the Italian Trade Agency, the ASSOMAC and the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO).”
“The strength of Italian enterprises is not only product quality but also the flexibility to meet the demand of customers. Such an element helps Italian companies compete in the market. The Italian manufacturers of leather and footwear machinery and equipment always pay close attention to detailed demands of customers so as to be able to manufacture the most suitable products for guests”, added Ms. Bocca.
