(VEN) - The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism recently announced the number of international visitors to Vietnam and revenues in September and the first nine months of this year..
The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam reached 813,007 in September and more than 7.2 million in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 28 percent and 25.7 percent compared to a year ago, respectively.
More than 6.1 million people traveled by air in the first nine months of the year, a 29.7 percent increase from the same period last year, while more than one million people traveled by car, a year-on-year growth of 10.8 percent.
Most markets saw impressive growth compared to the same period last year. In particular, the Northeast Asian region witnessed the highest growth such as Hong Kong, China increasing by 79 percent, China up by 57.7 percent, the Republic of Korea up by 39.9 percent and Chinese Taipei up by 15.7 percent. In addition, the number of visitors from five Western European countries enjoying one-year visa exemption under Governmental Resolution 56/NQ-CP maintained the two-digit growth such as Italy growing by 31.1 percent, Spain up by 27.9 percent, the UK up by 23.1 percent, Germany up by 18.6 percent and France up by 13.8 percent.
Nearly 300,000 Russian tourists entered Vietnam in these months, ranking among the top 10 markets in terms of growth.
Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Director General Nguyen Van Tuan said that the impressive growth in the number of international visitors to Vietnam represented the recovery of the tourism sector.
Domestic visitors reached an estimated 48.8 million in the first nine months of the year. Total revenues from all visitors reached VND297.161 trillion in the first three quarters of the year, an increase of 20.2 percent compared to a year ago.
In the remaining months of the year the sector needs to promote coordination with localities to improve the management of accommodations.
The tourism sector is expected to complete this year’s targets including 8.5 million international visitors, 60 million domestic visitors and total revenues of VND370 trillion.
