(VEN) - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa when addressing the review conference of the Agency for Regional Industry Development (ARID)’s activities in 2014 and tasks for 2015 noted that the content of industry promotion activities in 2015 needed to focus on the rural industrial facilities, implement more practical and specific projects to further improve the efficiency of industry promotion activities.

Industry promotion 2015 sticks to rural facilities

According to Deputy Director of the ARID under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) Le Hong Phong, total national industry promotion funding in 2014 was more than VND86.4 billion, of which disbursed funds reached VND70.951 billion, equal to 82.09 percent of the annual plan. The Industry Promotion and Development Consultancy Center No.1 (IPC1) alone which directly managed and implemented the national industry promotion projects at 28 cities and provinces in the northern region, has implemented 37 projects with total funding of VND15.239 billion.

Phong said national industry promotion in 2014 ensured industry promotion plans and gave more priority to practical and highly efficient industry promotion content for the localities.

Apart from industry promotion activities, ARID also successfully fulfilled other tasks, including industrial zone planning for 26 cities and provinces, the draft of many legal documents and organization of industry and trade sector conferences in the northern, central and southern regions. It also helped leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to carry out the new rural area program, especially monitoring the implementation of criteria on markets and electricity.

However, he said although ARID had promoted training on industry promotion professionalism, the settings of industry promotion plans of localities had fallen short of requirements. This was also the main reason that affected the allocation of industry promotion funds last year.

Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa highly appreciated ARID’s results last year. She also noted that in 2015, the tasks of the industry and trade sector and of the ARID in particular were tougher and would require higher quality efforts by the industry promotion staff and more awareness of global developments, especially when international trade agreements come into effect. The industry promotion activities need to be propagandized more broadly to attract the interest and active responses from sectors, localities and rural facilities.

The contents of industry promotion activities needed to focus on the application of scientific and technological programs and advanced equipment into production; be more closely related to the rural industrial facilities, and implement more practical and specific projects to further improve the efficiency of industry promotion activities.

According to Deputy Director of the ARID Le Hong Phong, in 2015, IPC1 is tasked to draft key and advantageous projects in different localities, inter-regional projects and other projects that create chain values in some advantageous sectors in the northern region, such as garment and textiles, engineering and food, foodstuff processing. IPC1 is also expected to act as a link that helps promote sales for rural facilities through participation in domestic and foreign trade fairs.
