Circulation of diesel oil with 0.25 percent sulfur to stop

14:46 | 01/04/2015 Industry

(VEN) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently agreed on stopping the circulation of diesel oil with 0.25 percent sulfur (DO 0.25 percent S) from January 1, 2016. Currently, two kinds of diesel oil are circulated in the Vietnamese market (DO 0.05 percent S and DO 0.25 percent S). High content of sulfur in diesel oil generates sulfuric acid which erodes engines and counteracts the effects of lubricants, shortening the life-span of engines. Using DO 0.25 percent S causes more environmental pollution than using DO 0.05 percent S. Moreover, the simultaneous circulation of two kinds of diesel oil in the market makes it difficult for state authorities as well as petroleum wholesalers to manage product quality.
