Industrial production index increases by 9.4 percent in April

The index of industrial production (IIP) in April saw an increase of 9.4 percent over the same period in 2017.

Reports on the socio-economic situation released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam in April also showed that the IIP witnessed an 11.4 percent annual increase in the first four months of the year.

The main driver of the surge, the processing and manufacturing sector, increased 14 percent, contributing 10.6 percentage points to the overall growth.

In addition, the electricity production and distribution sector grew 9.7 percent, contributing 0.9 percentage point, and water supply and waste management grew 5.5 percent, contributing 0.1 percentage point.

Meanwhile, the mining sector decreased by 1.2 percent, contributing 0.2 percentage points.

In April, raw steel and iron witnessed the largest output expansion of 38.2 percent, followed by synthetic cloth (up 26.2 percent), powder milk (20.7 percent) and television sets (17.5 percent).
