Hue recognized as national green city

Hue City in the central province of Thua Thien - Hue became the National Green City 2016 under a vote campaign of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The recognition ceremony was held in the central city on June 28. 


In 2016, Hue of Viet Nam and 127 other cities from 21 countries joined the vote campaign for 2016 Global Earth Hour City.

Hue and 17 other cities across the world entered the final round. Finally, the French “City of Light” of Paris was recognized as this year’s Global Earth Hour Capital. 

In the first debut, Hue succeed in meeting strict requirements to enter the list and pledged to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2020. 

It focused on planting more trees, promoting green tourism, improving waste and wastewater treatment and management, using a smart public lighting system, renewable energy and environmentally-friendly building materials.

The WWF’s Earth Hour City Challenge program targets to call on cities around the world to act towards a climate-friendly planet and develop action plans to mitigate and adapt to climate change./.
