The celebration aims to increase awareness and understanding of the Indian culture among Vietnamese and international brethren.

Diwali is the largest festival in India, celebrating peace and harmony. It is perhaps the most widely celebrated one in the country and all parts of the world by the Indian diaspora. The word Diwali means ‘rows of lit lamps.’ Traditionally all houses, shops and public places are decorated with small earthenware oil lamps called diyas.

For many Hindus, the Diwali festival honors Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. People start a new business year at this time and pray to the goddess for a successful year. It is also said that lamps and candles are lit to help the goddess of wealth find her way into people’s homes.

The Diwali Carnival 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City has become a major event in the Ho Chi Minh City’s cultural calendar attracting participants from Indians, expats from other countries and Vietnamese residents. The event will be held from 6.00 pm till late on Saturday, November 2.

Major sponsors of Diwali Carnival 2019 include Vietjet Air, Tandoor, RV Life, Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Suntory Pepsico, Vinpearl Group, Palazzo and Saigon India.

INCHAM donates a part of the Diwali celebration proceedings every year to the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
