(VEN) - Hanoi is one of localities actively granting certification for scientific and technological businesses with the first company recognized in 2010. The city currently has 30 scientific and technological companies in total.
Tosy robots have been exported to about 60 countries
Le Thanh Hieu from the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology said that Hanoi has led the country in the number of scientific and technological businesses with 30 companies covering information and communications technology, biotechnology serving agriculture and health, automation, new materials, environmental protection and electrical and electronics engineering.
Around 80 percent of certified scientific and technological businesses have goods and products originated in invention and useful solutions that were registered for intellectual property right protection at home and abroad. These businesses have proved their efficiency and revenues from scientific and technological activities have increasingly become higher. For example, the Vietnam National Seed Joint Stock Company (Vinaseed) was selected as one of Forbes top 200 best Asian companies with revenues of under US$1 billion in 2013.
Some scientific and technological businesses have exported their products to foreign markets such as the TOSY Robotics JSC with products available in more than 60 countries worldwide, the Green and Green Environment Joint Stock Company with the MGB wastewater treatment system exporting to the US, the Hydraulic Machine Co., Ltd. with the waste treatment system exporting to India and the Thanh Ha Co., Ltd. with fertilizer products available in Myanmar.
Le Thanh Hieu said that the number of certified scientific and technological businesses in Hanoi has been unsatisfactory as the city has many scientific and technological universities, research institutions and businesses.
According to the strategy for science and technology development in Hanoi by 2020, the city would have 150 scientific and technological businesses. To achieve the goal, the city needs to review and issue documents in order to create premise for their development.
Potential businesses have not yet asked for scientific and technological certification as they have not seen the benefits. In addition, certified businesses have also faced difficulties in enjoying preferential policies and tax incentives. Therefore, specific policies to support those businesses are needed.
Goods and products manufactured by scientific and technological businesses need to be prioritized to use in governmental projects. In addition, the state needs to promote the use of domestic technologies and introduce these products to investors and consumers via fairs and exhibitions.
Regarding goods and products for low-income earners such as farmers and fishermen, the state needs to devise policies to help products come to consumers. In addition, support policies including funding to improve product quality and lower costs are needed.
