In the Government leader’s Decision No. 21/2020/QD-TTg dated August 5, 2020, the Ha Tien border-gate economic zone will cover 1,600 hectares in the five wards of Phao Dai, Dong Ho, To Chau, Binh San and My Duc in Ha Tien city.

It has been organised with seven functional sections, including the non-tariff area, the international border gate, tourism, administration, the residential zone, the industrial section, and others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Ha Tien Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Le Quoc Anh, said that Ha Tien is one of the four key tourist areas of Kien Giang, with its economic structure having shifted towards viewing the trade-service-tourism industry as a spearhead economic sector and a major driver for developmental investment.

The establishment of the Ha Tien border-gate economic zone will create more development advantages for the city, making it more attractive to domestic and foreign investors, thereby contributing to stepping up local socio-economic development, he stated.

In his remarks, Vice Chairman of the Kien Giang provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan emphasised that Ha Tien City has been identified as one of the important economic and political centres in terms of internal and external relations, holding strategic significance in developing the border-gate economy and promoting import-export activities by road between Vietnam, particularly Kien Giang, and Cambodia.
