Ha Giang aimed to welcome 1.6 million tourists in 2020. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, only 246,000 had visited the province in the first five months of the year, a drop of 56.1 percent compared to a year ago. Average accommodation occupancy was about 50 percent during the reviewed period.

Based on the actual situation and local characteristics, Ha Giang Province has directed the tourism sector to focus on the dual task of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and promoting tourism. Accordingly, the local tourism sector has paid special attention to the domestic market, seeking to attract visitors from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, central localities, and Mekong Delta and Red River Delta provinces.

Businesses are considered key for swift tourism recovery. The province is committed to creating favorable conditions and helping business overcome by restructuring loan repayment terms and offering new loans at preferential interest rates. The province also pledges to protect the rights of visitors in the face of risks of service cancellation, security and health.

Regarding tourism promotion activities, the province has enhanced information dissemination on social networks and phone apps to let visitors know about destinations and tourism programs in Ha Giang.

Ha Giang Province has also focused on improving the quality of its tourism products and services. It has introduced typical products meeting the One Commune One Product (OCOP) standards, and organized tourism stimulus programs that offer reduced service fees, free sightseeing from June to September, and 50-percent discounts from October to December at Thac Tien-Deo Gio tourist destination, Lung Cu Flagpole, and the Vuong Palace in Dong Van Plateau.

By implementing a series of measures to restore tourism, Ha Giang Province is expected to reach total tourism

revenue of VND1.9 trillion this year.
