PM Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed with a suggestion by the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) on piloting Grabcar services in five big cities - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Ninh and Khanh Hoa - from January 2016 to January 2018.
The application helps transportation suppliers optimise their vehicles’ journey, cut transportation costs, improve competitiveness and reduce customers’ expenses on transportation
The information was announced at the MOT’s conference to implement the pilot of technological and scientific applications in managing and connecting passenger transportation activities on contracts.
Such softwares as GrabTaxi, LiveTaxi, AdTOS, Vrada and VinasunApp, which help connect passengers and transport service suppliers, are now available in Vietnam, reflecting the development trend of IT applications in transportation.
The MOT said that the pilot aims to connect transportation services on the IT basis in accordance with legal regulations, laying a foundation for implementing IT transportation projects in the future and meeting passengers’ demand. The ministry collected ideas from central and local agencies to the pilot.
According to Vice Chairman of National Traffic Safety Committee Khuat Viet Hung, the pilot is an important basis for improving relevant legal regulations on IT services which support transportation business. The application includes sufficient information on transportation contracts to help State management agencies to monitor and verify on-contract, tourism and route transportation, contributing to ensuring traffic safety and order. It also helps transportation suppliers optimise their vehicles’ journey, cut transportation costs, improve competitiveness and reduce customers’ expenses on transportation.
Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Standard and Consumer Protection Association Vuong Quoc Tuan, the pilot advances consumers’ interests and makes them central while stimulating competition in the passenger transportation market and bringing perse choices to consumers.
The MOT will work with relevant agencies to evaluate the pilot and repeat the service nationwide./.
