The event was attended by Tran Nguyet Thu, the spouse of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; the AWCH Honourary President Nguyen Nguyet Nga, the wife of Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh; representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hanoi and other organisations; in addition to Ambassadors of ASEAN countries, and others, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the AWCH Honourary President Nguyen Nguyet Nga expressed her pride at ASEAN’s development, from a divided region with conflicts and poverty to a region of peace, connectivity and prosperity.

ASEAN has become a community of self-reliance, dynamism and solidarity, as well as a great family with a common vision and identity and a people-oriented and people-centred community, she added.

Nga also noted that ASEAN now plays a central role within the region and holds a rising position in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as a whole.

According to her, the festival was an opportunity to celebrate the 50-year development process of ASEAN, as well as promoting the pride and determination it took to build the ASEAN Community.

On behalf of the ASEAN countries’ embassies in Hanoi, Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam Noel Servigon said that over the past 50 years, ASEAN has developed into a strong bloc with ten member countries, which have been recognised and respected throughout the world.

He highlighted the importance of the ASEAN Golden Festival, contributing to raising the people’s knowledge of the diverse cultures of ASEAN countries.

At the festival, the delegates enjoyed a unique arts programme, with traditional songs and dances from the ASEAN countries, which were performed by cadres from the ASEAN Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry and students from Hanoi art college.

A highlight of the festival will be the pavilions featuring the culture, traditional games and cuisine of the ASEAN countries.

In addition, an exhibition introduces photos that won at the contests on the lands and people in ASEAN.
