Defender Đoàn Văn Hậu has attracted the attention of Germany’s Fortuna Dusseldorf FC, according to Hoàng Anh Tuấn, coach of the U20 squad.
Hậu, 18, trains and plays with V.League champions Hà Nội FC. The 1.82m athlete was one of the best players of the U19 team and won a berth to compete at the upcoming U20 World Cup in South Korea in May.
“In my opinion, if he receives strong support he will be able to compete in Europe,” Tuấn said. He revealed that Fortuna Dusseldorf contacted Hà Nội FC and wanted to bring Hậu over to test his skills by joining their U19 side.
Coach Vũ Hồng Việt of Hà Nội FC also had words of praise for his player.
“He is the best in this generation in Hà Nội FC. Hậu has good physique, height and a great left leg. Despite being a defender, he can score well from free kicks with that leg,” Việt said.
Responding to the news, Hậu, meanwhile, said he had not yet received an official offer, but added that it would be great news to any player to get an opportunity to play abroad.
Hậu and his teammates will play a friendly match against Fortuna Dusseldorf’s young team as part of their training in April. They will also compete against Dortmund and PSV Eindhoven.
Fortuna Dusseldorf, founded in 1895, currently play in the 2.Bundesliga, the second tier of the German football league system.
