(VEN) - In mid-October, almost 30 Vietnamese businesses introduced farm produce and food at Salon International de l’Agroalimentaire (SIAL) - the largest food innovation observatory in the world - in Paris, France. This trade show was expected to boost agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and France in particular and between Vietnam and Europe at large.

Pepper is expected to increase its presence in the French market

The Vietnamese Trade Office in France said that Europe is one of the hardest-to-please markets and that exports to France must meet strict food safety and hygiene standards. SIAL is particularly important, as it provided the opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to learn more about foreign markets and encouraged Vietnam businesses to further improve product quality.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE), with effective assistance of foreign specialists, activities have been renovated to make it more able for Vietnamese enterprises to join SIAL and meet many more importers worldwide, especially in Europe and America.

At SIAL, Vietnamese exhibitors displayed major and potential exports, which are liked in Europe, such as cashews, honey, coconut, pepper, vegetable and rice.

The Vietnam Pepper Association said that although Vietnam is the world’s largest pepper exporter with approximately 150,000 tonnes per year, Vietnamese businesses need to make new efforts to stay in European markets where technical and quality barriers for importers are increasing.

Over the past five years, Vietnamese pepper businesses have made good preparations such as production restructuring, investment in technology, human resources, equipment and promotion to benefit from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and enter the European market. SIAL is an ideal venue where Vietnamese exporters can find partners.

Westfood introduced frozen and canned fruits at SIAL 2016. To build up its credibility, Westfood has upgraded its processing lines and applied the IQF technology to ensure high quality.

For years, SIAL has become the biggest and most prestigious food show, revealing the world’s latest food trends and attracting many leading businesses and importers worldwide. With a total area of 250,000sq.m, SIAL 2016 hosted 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 countries and territories and provided a good opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to promote their products and understand the latest trends.
