The deputy PM reiterated the government’s commitment to agricultural restructuring as he visited Agrotex 2015, an exhibition on hi-tech agriculture which opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on December 2.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy PM Ninh affirmed that Vietnam’s agricultural sector has attained significant results over the past 30 years. The country has emerged from severe food shortage to become one of the world’s leading agricultural exporters.
He said these accomplishments were substantially contributed to by tens of millions of farmers and agribusinesses throughout the country.
However, the deputy PM reminded that Vietnam’s agricultural sector was uncompetitive and facing great pressure as the country was seeking greater international integration.
He called on the agricultural sector to push through restructuring towards sustainability with a focus on strengthening the link between farmers and enterprises in the farming, processing and sale of agricultural products.
Agrotex 2015 is jointly organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Can Tho People’s Committee and the Association of Vietnamese Enterprises in Japan.
The five-day event includes a host of activities including an exhibition of agricultural products and machines, seminars and training workshops on technology transfer./.
