The Japanese businessman stated that AEON considers Vietnam as its key investment destination in Southeast Asia with plans to open 30 shopping centres with a total capital of US$5 billion, which is expected to create jobs for 50,000 local people.
Recently AEON signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade on increasing Vietnamese exports.
Last year, the company exported US$250 million worth of goods and the figure is expected to rise to US$500 million this year.
Masaki Suzuki said that, in addition to retail, AEON also operates in financial services, adding that it is planning to expand to this area in Vietnam by acquiring foreign or state-owned financial service companies.
Highly praising AEON’s opening of new shopping centres and exporting of Vietnamese goods to Japan, Deputy PM Hue stated that this is a sustainable way for AEON to do business in Vietnam.
He also expressed his support for the firm’s planned expansion into financial services on the spirit of complying with market regulations, thus helping to enhance its operations and payment services in Vietnam.
