The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 will host the leaders of the 21 member economies and thousands of official delegates, international reporters and world leading business people. Therefore, ensuring safe and sufficient power supplies for meetings and related events, as well as participants’ accommodations, plays a vital role.

Given the special importance and prestige of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has directed units to develop plans and invested in power projects in order to ensure supply for meetings and related events.

The National Power Transmission Corporation’s Power Transmission Company No.2 has to date completed the upgrading of 220kV transformers at the 500kV Da Nang and Hoa Khanh substations, and finalized the 220kV Ngu Hanh Son substation project, contributing to increasing total capacity to 1,125MVA to meet the local load demand.

The Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) is also urgently completing construction projects and upgrading the low and medium voltage grid system, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2017; upgrading the grid system in the neighboring city of Hoi An to reduce power losses and improve the reliability of power supplies for APEC 2017. In addition, the EVNCPC is also buying two 250kVA mobile generators to add backup power for APEC 2017.

Da Nang Power Company Limited Director Ngo Tan Cu said that power projects serving the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 will be officially completed in July. Investment capital for these projects totals VND1.1 trillion, including VND300 billion from the EVN, VND200 billion from the EVNCPC and the remaining from the Da Nang Power Company Limited.

Ngo Tan Cu said that there will be a rehearsal with a scenario of a large-scale blackout in Da Nang in September 2017. The Da Nang Power Company will have to respond in a timely manner in order to ensure immediate power resumption.

Vo Cong Tri, the standing deputy secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, says that the power sector plays a key role in

the successful organization of an important, international-scale event like APEC 2017. Therefore, Da Nang Power Company

heads and employees need to make greater efforts to prepare well for the event.
