(VEN) - The eighth Flower Festival of Da Lat City, scheduled for December 20-24 in Da Lat and Bao Loc cities in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, is expected to welcome about 300,000 visitors. The colorful biennial event honors the city’s flower industry and Da Lat as a leading tourist destination.
The 2019 festival will include a workshop on production cooperation and policies to attract investment for Lam Dong agriculture; an international flower and bonsai exhibition; a national trade fair; a Vietnamese-Korean cultural and art exchange program themed “Four Seasons of Flowers”; a Da Lat architectural heritage program; the opening ceremony of the Lam Dong Tea and Silk Culture Week; a Bao Loc silk fashion show themed “Flying High - Rising Far”; a workshop on the tea and mulberry industry associated with socioeconomic development orientation of Bao Loc City; and an art performance program as part of the festival’s closing ceremony.
The Flower Festival is held in December when the weather in the Highlands is most beautiful. This year’s event, according to Ton Thien San, Chairman of the Da Lat City People’s Committee, will be held in a new space and feature new activities, such as international flower exhibitions involving enterprises from Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), as well as the RoK Culture Festival in Da Lat. The festival area will be expanded beyond the city center, San added.
Phan Van Da, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee and Deputy Head of the 2019 Da Lat Flower Festival’s Steering Committee said Lam Dong will try its best to have a successful festival with new, unique programs. The city is finishing preparations for the festival and organizers are working with authorities, service providers and residents to ensure service quality and visitor safety.
The city is working with hotels to ensure stable room rates during the festival. Da Lat currently has 1,859 accommodation establishments with more than 23,400 rooms, which serve 70,000 visitors daily.
In the first 10 months of 2019, Lam Dong Province attracted an estimated 5.766 million visitors, up 9.5 percent from
the same period in 2018 and reaching 80.6 percent of the 2019 target, including 410,000 foreign tourist arrivals, up
9.5 percent and reaching 77 percent of the yearly target. The province has instructed tourism businesses to improve
facilities and service quality, strengthen cooperation with other domestic and foreign travel companies to organize
events including promotion programs in order to attract visitors to Da Lat in particular and Lam Dong in general,
especially during the Flower Festival.
