According to the Cao Bang Department of Industry and Trade, the province effectively implemented the provincial industry promotion program during the 2009-2015 period and recorded positive results. The number of rural industrial bases increased from 1,526 in 2009 to 1,650 in 2015, the number of workers for these bases increased from 7,039 in 2009 to around 9,000 in 2015 and the number of recruited trained workers increased from 250 in 2009 to 700 in 2015.

The program also provided vocational training for 1,270 workers with more than 740 employed after training courses and training for 200 industry promotion staff, and organized awards for outstanding rural industrial products and selected 17 provincially recognized and five products and one product group regionally recognized.

The Cao Bang Industry Promotion Center provided support on eight technical demonstration models related to forest products processing and production machinery, including unbaked brick production at the Du Trong Dai Co., Ltd and anti-heat corrugated sheet production at the Giang Hien Co., Ltd; assisted eight other rural industrial bases in new craft production and the employment of more than 300 workers and encouraged local farmers to adopt cleaner production and energy saving measures.

The provincial industry promotion program during the 2009-2015 period was estimated effective in promoting the application of new and advanced production technologies and equipment and the revival of local traditional crafts like casting, forging and poonah paper. However, the program met with some difficulties due ton limited industry promotion funding and difficult road links to local industrial bases, while the majority of rural industrial bases in the province which were small or very small-scaled found it difficult to attract investment and market their products.

To further boost provincial industry promotion and overcome related difficulties, the Cao Bang Province People’s Committee has approved the industry promotion program during the 2016-2020 period with total funding of VND11.2 billion.

The approved funding will be used to fund vocational training for 650 rural workers including 200 in forest products processing, 100 in mechanical processing and 100 in craft production, and to support eight industrial bases to apply new and advanced production technologies and equipment and cleaner production models.

The approved program will focus on industry promotion, encourage private funding for industry promotion activities, promote vocational training on demand and combine new rural development national target with local industry promotion projects with a view to better implement provincial industry promotion tasks.
