The policies carried out for ethnic minority people have helped to reduce the poverty rate among the groups to 6.8% as of late 2015.

In late April, the city People’s Committee started the implementation of the plan on realizing the millennium development goals (MDGs) towards ethnic minority people in connection with carrying out sustainable development targets in the 2016-2020 period.

The plan will give priority to boosting socio-economic development, rapidly reducing the poverty rate, and narrowing the gap of development between groups and localities.

The MDGs targets for ethic minority people in the city will cover poverty reduction, the universalisation of primary education, gender equality and women empowerment, a reduction in child fatality, an increase in maternal health, the prevention of HIV/AIDS as well as malaria and other epidemics, and the ensuring of environmental sustainability./.
