Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen began a two-day official visit to Vietnam on December 20.
The two-day visit is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc amid growing cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
PM Hun Sen is accompanied by Deputy PM and Minister of National Defence General Tea Banh; Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon; Senior Minister and Chairman of Cambodia’s National Border Committee Var Kim Hong; Senior Minister and Minister of Cults and Religion Him Chhem; Minister of Rural Development Ouk Rabun; Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem; Minister of Commerce Pan Porasak; Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon; and other high-ranking Cambodian government officials.
The Cambodian PM was born in 1952 in Steung Trang District, Kampong Cham Province. In 1970, he joined a movement that led to the national liberation of Cambodia on April 17, 1975. In 1977, he led the people’s liberation movement to save Cambodia from the genocidal régime of Pol Pot.
In 1978, he became a founding member of the United Front for the National Salvation of Kampuchea (UFNSK). Alongside other patriotic movements and the help of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, the UFNSK led the people of Cambodia to victory over the genocidal Democratic Kampuchea régime on January 7, 1979.
In 1979, Hun Sen held the position of Cambodian Foreign Minister. From 1981 to 1985, he served as Deputy PM cum Foreign Minister; between 1985 and 1991 as PM and Foreign Minister; between 1993 and 1998, as co-PM of the Royal Government of Cambodia and then Second PM of Cambodia.
Since July 1998, he has been the PM of the Kingdom of Cambodia. In June 2015, he was elected President of the Cambodian People’s Party.
PM Hun Sen is a Bachelor of Politics from the University of Cambodia and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics. He is also an honorary professor and Ph.D. at many prestigious universities and institutes worldwide in the fields of political science, law, international relations and education.
He has been bestowed by King Norodom Sihamoni with the lofty title of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo and has been awarded a range of prestigious regional and international awards.
