(VEN) - The Cam Ranh International Terminal Joint Stock Company (CRTC) is the investor of a new international terminal at Cam Ranh International Airport.
The terminal covers total area of 50,500sq.m with total investment capital of nearly VND 4 trillion, exploiting capacity of 4-5 million passengers per year. After 19 months of construction, the terminal was officially put into operation on July 1, 2018. This is the first terminal in Vietnam meeting four-star international standards. Its design is in the shape of a swallow’s nest, a specialty and symbol of the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.
The terminal is a two-storey building. One level is dedicated for arrivals and the other for departures. In present, it features a total of 32 check-in counters arranged in two islands, two baggage carousels (in near future, there will have total 64 check-in counters arranged in four islands, four baggage carousels), ten boarding gates, and four boarding bridges.
Unified and advanced equipment systems, produced and provided by prestigious companies from the US, Germany, Spain … make the management of the terminal not inferior to the world’s leading airports.
CRTC General Director Phan Le Hoan said the operation of the terminal has contributed to easing serious overloading of Terminal 1, and providing convenient services for passengers.
The number of tourists to Khanh Hoa Province has increased rapidly with an average growth of 30 percent per year, even 50 percent. According to the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, during the 2012-2017 period, the number of tourists going to the province increased from 2.3 million in 2012 to 5.5 million in 2017. The province is aiming to welcome 2.8 million foreign arrivals in 2018. In the first half of the year, the province welcomed 1.7 million foreign arrivals, an increase of nearly 60 percent compared to the same period last year. The number of tourists has grown rapidly, but service quality has not met the requirements. Therefore, Khanh Hoa is difficult to attract high-ranking visitors from the markets of Western Europe, North Asia and Japan.
In 2015, the Ministry of Transport and the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee asked the government for permission to develop infrastructure at Cam Ranh International Airport. The province launched construction of the second runway to modernize and upgrade the airport infrastructure as well as to meet the demand of travel. In addition, the CRTC sent a proposal to build a new international terminal at Cam Ranh International Airport. After 19 months of construction, the terminal was officially put into operation on July 1, 2018.
After a period of operation, the terminal has about 80 international flights arriving and departing every day, with more than 400,000 passengers traveling through the terminal. About 27 domestic and international airlines operate at the terminal, of which, international airlines mainly come from Russia, China, the Republic of Korea and Malaysia.
Lack of human resources and equipment for ground services is the biggest obstacle for the terminal. To meet the demand for growth as well as service quality, units should soon adopt an investment plan on human resources and equipment for ground services.
According to Phan Le Hoan, its model of joint stock company has helped accelerate the progress and ensure the quality of the project. The project has marked a new development in tourism of Khanh Hoa Province, contributing to making a strong impression on international visitors, and attracting airlines in the markets of Europe, Northeast Asia and ASEAN to open routes to Khanh Hoa Province.
Through the form of socialization, the project has brought benefits to parties. Accordingly, the state does not have to use a large amount of the budget, locality is benefited by the project’ contributions, passengers enjoy high-quality services at competitive prices, and airlines have opportunities to develop more flights.
With rapid tourism development pace, Khanh Hoa Province was selected to organize the 2019 National Tourism Year.
