(VEN) - Brocade and brocade weaving have been an important part of the Thai ethnic minority’s tradition for generations. They use brocade to make pillowcases, blankets, cushions, home decorations, wedding gifts, and offerings to gods, among others.

Weaving is still alive and thriving among the Thai ethnic groups in northern Vietnam. Girls are taught to weave from a young age, and the brocade they make is considered an important criterion of their virtue.

The intricate yarn preparation and weaving not only demonstrates the ingenuity of talented Thai women, but also expresses their dreams and passions. It is a symbol of the soul and an indispensable cultural beauty of Thai people.

Thai brocades usually have bright, vibrant colors. Yarn spinning, loom preparation, pattern creation and knitting are major parts of brocade weaving, with product patterns being diverse and featuring plants, flowers, animals and daily life activities.

To preserve and develop the brocade making, local authorities have established brocade cooperatives.
