(VEN) - Targeting sustainable tourism development, Binh Thuan Province is making efforts to develop its image as a leading sea-based tourist center.
Beaches in Mui Ne always satisfy domestic and foreign visitors
The Vietnam tourism development strategy to 2020 with a vision to 2030, approved by the government, prioritizes sea and island-related tourism development, promotion of tourist offerings’ unique cultural and ecological characteristics, and development of major high-quality and competitive sea-based tourist attractions that are regionally and internationally recognized.
Under this strategy, the city of Phan Thiet will become a national tourist city, Mui Ne a national tourist site in the south central region, and the Phu Quy Island a national tourist attraction.
To reach the target, Binh Thuan has been taking the advantage of the sea with beautiful beaches, white sand and sunlight to develop attractive tourist offerings featuring Binh Thuan’s characteristics.
In recent years, Binh Thuan launched many international events including the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) World Cup, the International Sailing Festival in Mui Ne, the International Balloon Festival in Mui Ne, and more. Besides, Binh Thuan has annual traditional festivities - the boat race on the Ca Ty River, the Whale Worshipping, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Kate Festival, the Binh Thuan Tourism Day - October 24, and more. These events help promote Binh Thuan’s image as an ideal destination for visitors and attract an increasing number of tourists.
According to the Binh Thuan Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, since 2005, the number of visitors to the province and tourism revenues have improved 12-14.5 percent and 19-20 percent per year, respectively. In the first nine months of 2016, Binh Thuan welcomed 3.24 million visitors, including more than 271,000 foreign tourists, earning revenue of almost VND6.43 trillion. Many magazines worldwide have said Mui Ne beaches in Binh Thuan are one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam in particular and Asia as a whole. Mui Ne has become domestically and internationally renowned.
However, Binh Thuan tourism is facing big challenges, a major one of which is the inadequate tourism infrastructure. Binh Thuan has no airport and deep-water port, while roads linking the province with major tourist centers nationwide remain inadequate and need to be developed.
In the coming time, Binh Thuan will continue encouraging major, high-quality tourism development projects, promote sea-based tourism cooperation, and pay due attention to community development and solving environmental problems.
Under the tourism development strategy, the province will become a national sea-based tourist center renowned for relaxation and eco-tours, and a national sea games center capable of hosting world-class sport events. Mui Ne is expected to become a leading sailing boat business center and a place to be annually chosen by the Professional Windsurfing Association.
