(VEN) - According to the Hanoi Capital Region Adjustment Project until 2030 with a Vision to 2050, the Hanoi Capital Region will include Hanoi and the nine surrounding provinces of Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Nam, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang.
Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang with total population of 17.6 million have been carefully considered and subsequently added to the project. The adjusted Hanoi Capital Region area will cover more than 24,300sq.km, which doubles the current area and accounts for 7.3 percent of the country’s area and equivalent to 80 percent of the Ho Chi Minh City Region.
According to experts, this adjustment is necessary and targets three major goals in regional construction planning. Firstly, it meets the requirements of development, management and investment in the capital and is based on the close cooperation and links between local authorities in the region. Secondly, it meets the needs to build modern infrastructure in the region. And finally, it provides the premise for the establishment and adjustment of provincial and interprovincial construction planning along related ring roads and highways while being regarded as the basis on which regional data will be constructed to serve management purposes.
According to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Hanoi plays a key role in the national socioeconomic development and the project targets sustainable socioeconomic development of the capital and nine surrounding provinces based on promoted regional cooperation and links.
The prime minister also asked ministries and agencies to review regional dam and dike networks and assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with related authorities to resolve flooding problems that affect the capital.
The Hanoi Capital Region will cover more than 24,300sq.km, which doubles the current area and accounts for 7.3 percent of the country.
